CALVIÀ – The Guardia Civil in Calvià has arrested six tourists on suspicion of gang rape of an 18-year-old woman in Magaluf. The young British woman, who was also vacationing on the island, was reportedly assaulted in a hotel room. Those arrested are said to be French (5) and Swiss (1).
The daily newspaper Ultima Hora reported this based on information from sources at the local police. The arrest followed an emergency call from hotel security personnel. According to their report, a young lady found herself on the street at night, visibly upset, screaming and claiming she had been raped by several youths in a hotel room. She also reported that at least one of the attackers recorded the attack on his phone.
Intimidated in hotel room
The young woman stated that she had met some guys in the early morning hours while going out in the tourist area of Mallorca. Since all other entertainment venues were closed, they decided to continue the evening at the boys’ hotel. However, once in the room, she claims she was intimidated by several of the boys, after which they raped her.
After leaving the hotel, she started calling for help on the street. Hotel security officers immediately called in the Guardia Civil, who quickly arrived and arrested the boys after hearing testimonies from the young lady and security personnel.
After a forensic examination found injuries consistent with the victim’s claims, the six tourists were taken into custody. Hotel security camera footage also confirmed the young lady’s allegations. In addition, an investigation is underway into mobile phone images that could shed more light on the events.
Furthermore, five of the six originally accused remain in pre-trial detention in Palma Prison.
Second gang rape
This is the second known gang rape in Mallorca this summer. Earlier in July, five German tourists were arrested on Platja de Palma after an attack on an 18-year-old compatriot. Here too, the rape would have been partly filmed with a mobile phone.
