Passenger record for Valencia airport in September

VALENCIA – Valencia airport has recorded record numbers this summer. In August, more than 900,000 passengers landed or departed there for the first time and in September the airport registered the best figure in the historical series.

No fewer than 811,140 passengers arrived or departed from VLC airport in September. This is according to figures from the airport authority AENA. That is 42.9% more than last year and 2.5% more than the same month of 2019, the last year before the pandemic.

Since the beginning of 2022, Valencian airport has welcomed 6.1 million passengers to its facilities. That is 93.4% of the number of passengers in the same period before the pandemic broke out, in the year 2019.

Increase in the number of domestic travellers

The increase in the number of passengers at Valencia airport has largely been achieved by the increase in the number of domestic travellers. With almost 2 million passengers from Spanish soil, that increase was 13% compared to 2019.

The number of flights with Valencia Airport as their departure point or destination also continues to increase. Specifically, the airport managed a total of 6,916 operations in September, almost the same as in 2019 (6,999). The airport registered 56,000 flights so far this year, 94% of those registered in 2019. That number represents a significant increase from the figure for 2021 (33,807 flights).

International arrivals lagging behind

The number of international arrivals is lagging behind pre-pandemic levels. More than 550,000 passengers from abroad arrived or departed from Valencia. That is 93.6% of the number in 2019. Most international passengers came from Italy (106,971 passengers), the United Kingdom (74,013) and Germany (69,065).
