A woman reported missing in Valencia in April 2024 has been found over a year later in a psychiatric hospital in Paris, according to Spain’s National Police.
The woman had been hospitalised in the French capital since May 2025 following a severe mental health crisis. Her disappearance was initially reported by her mother. She had alerted both the authorities and national media after her daughter went missing.
Following extensive investigations in coordination with French and Dutch authorities via the SIRENE network, police traced the woman to the hospital. She is now safe and receiving care.
Fraudulent ransom call
A year after the disappearance, the mother received a phone call from individuals claiming to have kidnapped her daughter. They demanded ransom money and made threats, prompting a new line of investigation into a possible abduction.
Police tracked the phone number used in the extortion attempt to Madrid. There, they arrested a woman who admitted purchasing the SIM card on behalf of her sister in Colombia. The latter was reportedly using a messaging app to contact the mother.
The arrested woman explained that her sister and brother-in-law in Colombia ran a phone-based witchcraft business. She also revealed that her sister often contacted families of missing persons, raising the possibility that she had communicated with the mother of the missing woman.
Mother reunites with daughter
Once the woman’s whereabouts were confirmed, police immediately informed her mother, who travelled to France to be reunited with her daughter and assist with her care.
