The search operation for the missing couple off the coast of Mallorca has taken a new turn following the recovery of two bodies from the sea. The Guardia Civil has confirmed that one of the bodies belongs to 67-year-old Juan Herrera, who disappeared alongside his partner, Angelita Silva, last Saturday.
On Wednesday afternoon, search teams recovered both bodies from separate locations. Herrera’s body was located around 2.30 pm, approximately four miles from the Cala Figuera lighthouse. The second body, discovered near Sa Dragonera, was found to be in an advanced state of decomposition and has been ruled out as belonging to Angelita. Moreover, authorities believe it may belong to a person who fell from a migrant boat some time ago.
The couple vanished after setting off from the port of El Toro in a motorboat named Zaragall for a day of fishing. On Sunday, the boat was found adrift near Sa Dragonera island. According to investigators, the vessel was intact and showed no signs of damage or violence, suggesting the possibility of an accident at sea.
Search for Angelita Silva continues
The Guardia Civil, supported by maritime rescue teams, has been working intensively since receiving an alert on Wednesday. Several boats involved in the operation assisted in retrieving the bodies. Advanced equipment, including an underwater robot, has been deployed to assist in the ongoing search for Angelita Silva, a 57-year-old Brazilian national.
Juan Herrera, a retired local police officer from Calvià, and Silva had planned a routine outing that ended in tragedy. The circumstances leading to their disappearance remain unclear.
Authorities continue to search the waters around Mallorca in the hope of finding Angelita Silva and clarifying the events that led to the couple’s disappearance.
