Nikoline, the 17-year-old Norwegian teenager reported missing after a night out in Puerto Banús, has been identified as the young woman who died after being struck by a lorry on the A-7 in Mijas Costa early on Monday morning.
Her family confirmed the identification to El Español de Málaga, after an urgent appeal had been shared when she failed to return home. She had last been seen at Funky Buddha in Puerto Banús after celebrating Norway’s World Cup match with other young Norwegians.
Collision on the A-7 at Riviera del Sol
The fatal collision happened shortly after 5.20 am on Monday on the A-7 in Mijas Costa. Local reporting from Mijas Comunicación places the incident at Riviera del Sol, at kilometre 1027, in the direction of Marbella. According to the report, witnesses alerted 112, and the 061 health emergency service, Guardia Civil traffic officers and road maintenance teams were sent to the scene. Medical teams could only confirm the young woman’s death, and the right lane of the motorway was closed for several hours.
Questions over the timeline
One of the key unanswered questions is what happened between the time Nikoline was last seen in Puerto Banús and the fatal collision on the A-7 at Riviera del Sol.
The distance between Puerto Banús and Riviera del Sol is significant, and investigators will now need to establish how she came to be on that section of the motorway. At this stage, no official public statement has confirmed whether she travelled by taxi, private vehicle, with someone else, or by another route.
Málaga Hoy reports that sources from the investigation confirmed the victim was the missing Norwegian teenager and that one of the witnesses who called 112 indicated the driver did not stop after the impact. The same report says the Guardia Civil investigation remains open to clarify the circumstances and determine the causes of the accident.
Search ends in tragedy
The confirmation brings a tragic end to the search that began after Nikoline failed to return home and her family appealed publicly for help. The appeal was widely shared across Marbella, Puerto Banús, Fuengirola, Calahonda, Riviera del Sol and the wider Costa del Sol.
What began as a missing-person appeal has now become a fatal traffic investigation. For Nikoline’s family and friends, it is an unimaginable loss. For the wider community, the most respectful response now is to avoid rumours, allow investigators to do their work, and pass any relevant information directly to the authorities.
Anyone who was in Puerto Banús, Calahonda, Riviera del Sol or on the A-7 in the early hours of Monday, and who may have information that could help the investigation, should contact the Guardia Civil or Policía Nacional. In an emergency, call 112.
