Marbella becomes backdrop for shootings

A 21-year-old young man was injured in a shooting incident in Marbella. The victim was found by officers in a car with two gunshot wounds. It marks the fifth shooting incident in a short span of time in Marbella.

The popular resort town of Marbella has been the scene of multiple shooting incidents in recent weeks. Following shots fired at an establishment in Nueva Andalucía and a shootout outside the doors of a shisha bar in Puerto Banús, the Policia Nacional reported another firearms-related incident on Tuesday, April 2nd. The shooting occurred around midnight on the night of Monday to Tuesday in the Los Naranjos urbanisation. Witnesses reported hearing gunshots.

Victim hospitalised

Officers responding to the emergency call found a 21-year-old young man. The victim was in a car and had two gunshot wounds. He was taken to the Costa del Sol hospital, where he was later admitted. Moreover, the testimony of the young man will be crucial in the search for the perpetrator(s). With the fifth shooting incident in two months, a disturbing trend is emerging in Marbella.

On March 16th, another man in his twenties was also hit by bullets, near an establishment on Avenida José Banús. Citizens captured the skirmishes around the incident with mobile phones. However, when officers arrived at the scene, they found no one. Later it was revealed that a boy with gunshot wounds had been admitted to the hospital.

Multiple people arrested

A few days earlier, two individuals opened fire on a popular restaurant in Nueva Andalucía. They arrived at the establishment, located on Calle Juan Belmonte, on a motorcycle. The passenger then got off and opened fire. Both motorcyclists wore helmets and dark clothing. Police recently reported that two individuals have been arrested in connection with this shooting incident. At least 15 shots were fired at the windows of the restaurant during the incident.

Shootings likely the work of criminal gangs

In the same area, on February 10th, a person was hit by bullets. Three people were arrested for these crimes. The motive for the latest shooting is not yet known. Police suspect that the shootings are the work of criminal gangs involved in drug smuggling.
