Malaga is experiencing unprecedented growth, with the city centre bustling with tourists year-round and a high demand for new housing. Tech companies are flocking to this Spanish Silicon Valley, and airlines are bringing in a steady stream of visitors. To enhance visitor experience and ease life for residents, Málaga has several ambitious plans in the pipeline.

Tech Park expansion

The Parque Tecnológico (PTA) is set for a substantial expansion of 550,000 square metres. This will include 23,400 square metres of new business spaces and up to 200 homes. This development aims to create a live-work environment for up to 50,000 employees, with an investment of €18.4 million dedicated to green spaces, communal facilities, and research infrastructure.

Chic marina

The new Marina San Andrés, funded by Qatari investors, will offer 506 berths and is strategically located near the María Zambrano train station. With a €44 million investment, construction could begin in early 2025. The marina will feature a nautical complex for social activities, luxury brands, gourmet restaurants, and a 45-metre Ferris wheel, aiming to generate €75 million over 50 years.

Shopping centre

A new indoor shopping centre near Guadalmar, close to Plaza Mayor, has received final approval. The centre will cover 3,366 square metres, with additional areas for greenery and roads. The project aims to create a peaceful environment by excluding bars, pubs, nightclubs, and karaoke venues.

Long traffic tunnel

Malaga plans to build a 2.3-kilometre tunnel to divert traffic underground between the port and city centre, freeing up 100,000 square metres of pedestrian space. The project, estimated at €324 million, will include geothermal energy integration to reduce nearby buildings’ energy costs by up to 90%. Construction is expected to start in early 2025 and last about 36 months.
