Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport has achieved the busiest six months in its history, handling almost 12.4 million passengers and more than 87,400 flights between January and June 2025.
According to figures released by Aena, the Spanish airport operator, passenger numbers rose by 7.8% compared with the same period in 2024. In total, 12,394,682 travellers passed through the airport during the first half of the year, while flight movements increased by 8.2% to reach 87,434 operations.
Of the total passengers, 12,371,429 travelled on commercial flights. Domestic routes accounted for over 2 million passengers (+2.4%), while international traffic surpassed 10.3 million (+9%).
Málaga airport to undergo major expansion as passenger numbers surge
The United Kingdom remained the most important foreign market, generating 2,839,152 passengers. Germany followed with 926,746, ahead of the Netherlands (773,669) and Italy (681,537).
In terms of flight movements, 85,839 were commercial operations, with international flights showing the strongest growth (+8.9%) and totalling 67,228 departures and arrivals. Domestic operations increased by 5.1% to 18,611.
Record month in June
June alone set a new benchmark for Málaga Airport, as 2,632,385 passengers used its facilities – an increase of 8.2% year on year. Aircraft movements also rose by 8.2% to 18,045 operations, marking the airport’s busiest June on record.
Most June travellers flew on commercial services. Of these, 427,219 chose domestic routes (+8.8%), while 2,201,927 opted for international connections (+8.1%). The British market led once again with 652,087 passengers, followed by Germany (195,837) and the Netherlands (154,957).
June’s commercial operations included 14,131 international flights (+7.8%) and 3,643 domestic services (+11.4%).
Wider Aena network
Across Spain and its overseas airports, the Aena group managed 35.7 million passengers in June 2025, a rise of 3.8% compared to June 2024. Aircraft movements reached 300,606 (+2.9%), and cargo volumes climbed to 119,475 tonnes (+4.9%).
Málaga Airport’s performance reflects a sustained recovery in air travel and consolidates its position as one of Spain’s most dynamic gateways for both tourism and business.
