Instability in the weather

Last week, a DANA (isolated depression at high levels) once again brought rain to Spain. This was followed by a few days of heat across large parts of Spain, but the coming week will see the return of instability to the Iberian Peninsula. An incoming Atlantic front is expected to cause showers and storms in various regions.

This was reported by Rubén del Campo, spokesperson for the Agencia Estatal de Meteorología (AEMET).

Monday: rising temperatures

The week will begin with another increase in temperatures, both during the day and at night. On Monday, temperatures in the interior will rise well above 30 degrees Celsius, reaching up to 40 degrees Celsius in inland Andalucia.

Tuesday: arrival of the atlantic front

On Tuesday, Del Campo predicts the arrival of a front that will increase instability. Thunderstorms are expected in the mountainous areas of the northern half of Spain, and temperatures will drop in Galicia and the western parts of Extremadura and Andalucia. However, it will remain warm in the central and eastern parts of the peninsula, with temperatures between 34 and 36 degrees Celsius.

Rain and thunderstorms in castilla-la mancha

For Tuesday, showers and thunderstorms are forecast in the mountainous areas of northeastern Castilla-La Mancha. Dry thunderstorms are expected in the rest of the region, especially in the southwest and the rest of La Mancha. Maximum temperatures will rise slightly, particularly in the northeast, while minimum temperatures will remain unchanged. There will be a weak variable wind, with moderate intervals in the north of La Mancha and the southeast.

Wednesday: expansion of showers

On Wednesday, showers will spread to the northern half of the country. In Castilla-La Mancha, there is a chance of showers in the northeast and north of La Mancha, with a higher likelihood in the mountainous areas of Guadalajara. Thunderstorms are also expected in the mountains of the Ibérica region and the southeast.

Thursday: return of stability

From Thursday, showers are likely to be heavy in northeastern Spain and the Balearic Islands. In the rest of the country, the situation will stabilise. Temperatures will rise again in the northern part of the peninsula and remain largely unchanged in the rest of the country. In many parts of the southern half, temperatures are expected to stay above 34 to 36 degrees Celsius from Thursday onwards.

Rain radar

According to the rain radar of elTiempo.es, instability on Sunday will bring showers to northern Spain and the coast and inland areas of Girona during the second half of the day. Light rain showers are also possible in Mallorca. On Thursday, rain is expected in the west of Extremadura and Andalucia. By Friday, the east of Andalucia, as well as the northern coast of Spain and parts of the plateau, will also experience rain.
