MURCIA – The Policia Nacional have detained a man in the town of Blanca in Murcia for allegedly participating in crimes of collaboration with a jihadist organisation and terrorist self-indoctrination.

The investigation, named Operation Rakmu began in February of this year because of the Moroccan Direction Générale de la Surveillance du Territoire (DGST). They had alerted the Policia Nacional in Spain about the presence of a highly radicalised individual.

Following this information, agents specialised in jihadism began their investigative work. Furthermore, they monitored the detainee and verified the criminal activity that he carried out. Moreover, this was mainly in the virtual field.

On the afternoon of Tuesday after his arrest, an entry and search was carried out at his home. According to official police reports, they intervened electronic elements, telephone terminals and documentation of great interest. These are now being analysed. From this, the investigators extracted a large amount of information and material of radical jihadist content.

From his Murcia home, the now detainee continuously consumed and shared a large amount of extreme and violent jihadist propaganda. He did this via his social media networks. Furthermore, he openly expressed his desire to become a martyr. Consequently, for all these reasons, he was arrested.

On Friday morning, the detainee was placed at the disposal of the head of the Central Court of Instruction number Five, ordering his admission to preventive detention.

The operation was carried out jointly by the General Information Police Station (CGI) and the Provincial Information Brigade of Murcia, in collaboration with the CNI, under the coordination of the National High Court Prosecutor’s Office and the direction of the Central Court of Instruction number Five.
