Mos femicide suspect dead

Mos femicide suspect is dead — that is now the grim outcome of a case that began with a 52-year-old woman found killed in her home in the parish of Sanguiñeda, in Mos (Pontevedra), and ended hours later with the suspected attacker found dead after barricading himself in a property in O Porriño.

The woman was discovered on Sunday after her sister, who lives upstairs, raised the alarm. Investigators say the victim had multiple knife wounds.

A search that ended with a second death

After the attack, the suspect fled in a vehicle, according to accounts from the investigation cited by Spanish media. A large-scale search followed, with the Guardia Civil locating the man later the same day.

Reporting in Galicia says he barricaded himself in a building in O Porriño and was later found dead.

Confirmed as gender violence

Spanish media report that the Delegación del Gobierno contra la Violencia de Género has confirmed the case as gender-based violence and is gathering further information.

If counted in the national official tally, it would be the sixth woman killed in Spain this year in gender violence cases, according to figures cited in reporting.

No prior VioGén record

One of the details most likely to fuel debate is what authorities did not find. Multiple outlets report there were no prior complaints linked to the victim in VioGén, Spain’s monitoring and protection system for victims of gender violence.

That absence does not rule out abuse. But it does underline a known pattern: many cases reach police only after violence escalates.

Mos declares mourning

The Mos town hall has declared days of mourning, with a minute’s silence and further acts of condemnation planned locally.

In Spain, the 016
