As February transitions into March, Spain braces for a turbulent weekend marked by significant Weather warnings. The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has issued multiple alerts, particularly focusing on the southern regions, due to an approaching cold storm system.

Málaga province under orange alert

Málaga province faces an orange warning for heavy rainfall, with forecasts predicting up to 30 mm of precipitation in just one hour. This is especially between Marbella and Estepona. The alert is active from 9.00 am to midnight on Friday, February 28.

In response, local authorities have reinforced emergency services, including firefighters and police. Furthermore, public events have been suspended as a precautionary measure.

Additional warnings across Andalucia

Beyond Málaga, yellow warnings are in effect for Cádiz and Huelva provinces, anticipating significant rainfall and potential thunderstorms. Residents in these areas are advised to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary travel.

Impact on carnival festivities

The inclement weather coincides with Carnival celebrations across the country. Participants and organisers are urged to monitor local forecasts and adhere to safety recommendations, as events may face cancellations or modifications due to adverse conditions.

Safety precautions

Authorities emphasise the importance of staying informed through official channels and following safety guidelines. Precautions include securing outdoor objects, avoiding flood-prone areas, and refraining from driving during heavy downpours.

As the situation develops, residents and visitors are encouraged to keep abreast of the latest updates to ensure safety during this period of unsettled weather.
