Two die at cemetery in Valencia

VALENCIA – Two people have died at a cemetery this morning in Torrent (Valencia). One died as a result of a heart attack. However, the other died from gunshot wounds. A third was also injured in the shooting. Although it is thought perhaps more people may also have suffered minor gunshot injuries.

According to news agency EFE, the deceased and the wounded belong to a gypsy family called Los Bocanegra.

Investigation

The identity of the attacker is currently unknown. However, an investigation is being carried out by the National police.

Ajuntament de Torrent

The official Facebook page of Ajuntament de Torrent states “the work of the Scientific Police continues inside the parish cemetery, so today the facilities will not be opened to the public”.

Cogesa Expats

The Ajuntament continued, “this morning, around 10.20 am, there was a shooting between two clans in the Torrent cemetery. As a result of this, a 45-year-old male died, and his 20-year-old son has been injured.

There has also been the death of a 79-year-old person because of a heart attack. Both Local Police and National Police are at the scene of the incident and have closed the facilities to the public. It will remain closed until the investigation is finalised and the dead bodies have been removed.”

All Saints Day

As November 1 is All Saints Day, and a holiday in Spain, many people would have been expected to enter the Torrent cemetery. However, due to the investigation, police prevented this from happening.

An event to pay homage to the deceased planned for this evening at the cemetery of Torrent has also been cancelled.
