Iryo, the high-speed rail company, and the bus company Avanza have signed an agreement in Marbella. Among other things, this agreement allows the Madrid-Marbella one-ticket trip “in four hours”, thanks to Iryo Conecta. The carriers have already started offering this combined service.
Passengers were already able to travel with Yryo to cities on the Costa del Sol such as Marbella, Estepona and Fuengirola, as well as to Algeciras and La Línea de la Concepción. From now on, the railway company, together with Avanza, will take passengers beyond the train station in the province of Málaga and use bus services to do so.
In addition to the 10 daily connections (5 round trip and 5 return) between Madrid and Málaga that Iryo offers its passengers, there will be more than 20 Avanza buses to Marbella every day with a frequency of 30 to 60 minutes. There are more than 10 buses to Estepona with a frequency of 1 to 2 hours, about 6 to Fuengirola and Algeciras and 5 to La Línea de la Concepción. All this guarantees a wide range of combinations to meet the needs of all passengers. In addition, all train-bus connections have enough space for a comfortable transfer.
Accessibility and sustainability
“This initiative is excellent news, not only from a mobility and connectivity point of view, to bring Marbella even closer to visitors travelling from the capital Madrid, but also in terms of sustainability, with a firm commitment to public transport and environmentally responsible tourism,” said the mayor, Ángeles Muñoz.
According to Simone Gorini, CEO of Iryo, this partnership will allow “sustainable and flexible” travel for a city that welcomed 736,000 passengers in 2023 through its 50 daily connections to the capital Málaga. “It’s an initiative that works because Spaniards love to travel. In addition, the partnership makes travelling to the Costa del Sol easier, as there are more options.
