A groundbreaking €300 million project, Transcendence, is set to turn Coín into an extreme sports hub. A company linked to the Ardid family, descendents of Franco, are blending adventure, nature, and luxury in this proyect called ‘Transcedence’.
This mega-development will cover 1.3 million square metres, featuring world-class facilities for extreme sports like wakeboarding, e-motocross, and skateboarding. The project also includes a wide range of accommodations from standard suites to 1,000m² luxury villas.
Themed areas in Transcedence
The park will be divided into themed areas: Mundo Agua for water sports with artificial waves and whitewater rafting; Mundo Fuego for motorsports like buggies and motocross; Mundo Tierra with climbing walls and paintball; and Mundo Aire featuring wind tunnels and zip lines. Each zone will have dedicated infrastructure, including bars, restaurants, and event spaces.
Eco-friendly
Alongside sports facilities, Transcendence aims to promote sustainability. It includes a 23,500m² organic farm for growing vegetables and eco-friendly construction. Herewith, ensuring the development respects its natural surroundings. The project also seeks to foster social interaction with a kind of ‘village‘ central area featuring shops and restaurants.
Environmental impact under review
The project has passed an initial environmental evaluation by the Junta de Andalucía. Nevertheless, concerns remain due to its location within the Llanos de Matagallar natural area. The Superior Court of Justice of Andalucia (TSJA) has accepted Ecologistas en Acción’s appeal against the Junta de Andalucía’s refusal to provide information on the project. Despite its ‘green’ claims, it faces criticism for its potential environmental impact, particularly on the Coín aquifer. Ecologistas en Acción argues that the Junta has withheld key details in this respect. Over 5,000 people protested in February, demanding protection for the area.
