Spain weather update as new rain warnings follow days of flooding

Spain remains under unsettled weather conditions after days of heavy rain and localised flooding, with fresh warnings issued in several regions as another Atlantic system moves across the country.

While the most intense downpours earlier in the week have eased in some areas, authorities say saturated ground and swollen rivers continue to pose risks, particularly in southern and eastern parts of the peninsula.

According to the latest updates from Spain’s state weather agency, further showers, strong winds and rough seas are expected through the weekend, with conditions varying sharply from region to region.

Flood risk remains after days of heavy rain

In parts of Andalucía, including Málaga province, emergency services are continuing to monitor river levels and flood-prone areas following a series of incidents linked to rising water earlier this week.

Even when rainfall eases, runoff from higher ground can continue to push through riverbeds and normally dry channels. Officials are urging residents and visitors to avoid crossing flooded roads or entering riverbanks while alerts remain in place.

Some local road closures and minor disruptions have also been reported in affected areas. Drivers are being advised to check conditions before travelling, especially in rural zones and mountainous terrain.

Wind and coastal warnings in place

Along parts of the Mediterranean coast, strong winds and rough seas are expected at times. Weather alerts remain active for adverse coastal conditions, with waves and gusts creating potentially dangerous situations for small boats and shoreline activities.

Travellers planning journeys over the weekend are being encouraged to monitor official updates and follow local safety guidance where warnings are in force.

Unsettled pattern expected to continue

Forecasters say the current run of unstable weather is likely to continue into the coming days, although impacts will differ depending on location. Not all regions will see severe conditions, but authorities stress that caution remains important where alerts are active.

After a week marked by intense rainfall and several serious incidents linked to flooding, emergency services across affected areas remain on alert as the weather system moves through.
