World Environment Day is celebrated each year on June 5. The United Nations choose this special day as a focus to raise worldwide awareness and to take action to protect the environment.

This year, the campaign focuses on plastic pollution. Although most of us are aware of this massive problem, we still contribute to it by adding to the pollution. Consequently, as many people worry about the environment, they look for ways to change and reduce their ecological footprint.

The Soroptimist Award

In 2021, Soroptimist International Costa del Sol decided to participate in the international call from the UN General Assembly for ways to make our local food system more sustainable, inclusive, and resilient. As a result, they initiated various actions. Among them, the Soroptimist Award. This award promotes local businesses and organisations who work towards sustainability.

“The reaction from the jury, participants and guests last year was very positive and SI Costa del Sol decided to continue to look for people in the Malaga province who make a positive change to our food system and who deserve a recognition for the work they do.” says Daphne Theunissen, President of SI Costa del Sol. “This year we hope to be able to include organisations from the more rural parts of the Malaga province” she continued.

2023 candidates

SI Costa del Sol would like to invite you to put forward businesses or organisations. Think of organisations that promote organic food, local food products, teach about sustainable food and ways to avoid food waste and plastic waste.
