Salmonella alert: Contaminated liquid egg product recalled in Spain

The Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutrition (AESAN) has issued an urgent warning regarding the presence of Salmonella in a batch of pasteurised liquid egg products.

The affected product, marketed under the OVOPACK brand, was initially distributed in Andalucía, Cataluña, and Extremadura. Consequently, AESAN urges consumers who have purchased the product to refrain from using it and return it immediately.

While the product was originally distributed in Andalucía, Cataluña, and Extremadura, there is a possibility of redistribution to other regions.

Health risks and symptoms

Salmonella infection, known as salmonellosis, typically results in gastrointestinal symptoms such as diarrhoea, vomiting, fever, and headaches. AESAN advises anyone who has consumed the affected product and is experiencing these symptoms to seek medical attention immediately.

All regional health authorities have been informed through the Rapid Information Exchange System (SCIRI) to coordinate the removal of the contaminated batch from the market. Consumers in possession of the product should not consume it and follow the recall instructions provided by their local authorities.
