record number of vaccinations in one day, Spain

MADRID – Last Thursday, more than 306,000 people were vaccinated against the corona virus in Spain. That is a record number of vaccinations in one day, so far. With an incidence now above 154 per 100,000 inhabitants, the progress is good news.

Spain received more than a million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine last Thursday. A further 1.2 million doses of Pfizer vaccine will be delivered next Monday. Health Minister Darias said the target of vaccinating 33million Spaniards this summer (by September 21) is now within reach. That is 70% of the total population; this creates group immunity.

13.5% of residents in Spain have now received the first injection. 6.8% have also had the second vaccination. In Catalonia, with nearly 81,000 doses last Wednesday, a record number of people were also vaccinated since the campaign began last December. In Catalonia, 17.7% of all residents have now received at least the first shot.

Regions continue vaccination campaigns during Easter

The Madrid region announced it will not interrupt the vaccination campaign during Easter. The Wanda Metropolitano stage and the Hospital Enfermera Isabel Zendal will remain open for the progress of the vaccination campaign.

Cantabria also opened a location for mass vaccination last Wednesday. The Palacio de Exposiciones de Santander is expected to vaccinate 2,800 people with essential professions and the over-80s this Saturday.

The regional governments of Navarre, Castile and León and Extremadura also announced they will not interrupt the campaign during Easter. The region of Valencia and the autonomous city of Ceuta are still awaiting new doses of vaccine. If they are received on time, the vaccination program will continue during the holidays.

In the coming days, all over-80s and people with essential professions will be vaccinated in the Basque Country. The age group under 65 years will follow.

The La Rioja region will continue with vaccinations at Hospital San Pedro, Centro de Investigación Biomédica de la Rioja and Fundación Hospital de Calahorra during the Easter season, provided there are sufficient vaccines.

In the Balearic Islands, all over-80s will be vaccinated during Easter in both health centers and mass vaccination sites.
