Tennis legend Rafa Nadal has inaugurated a new tennis and padel centre in Marbella, enhancing his sports academy’s presence in Spain. Situated at the refurbished Hotel Don Carlos, the facility boasts seven clay tennis courts and two padel courts with sea views.
It also features a pro shop offering Nike and Babolat products, and an exhibition displaying some of Nadal’s notable trophies.
Nadal’s vision for the Marbella centre
He expressed his enthusiasm and stated, “I am very happy that we are officially announcing the launch of a new Rafa Nadal Tennis Centre in Marbella, as it consolidates our expansion project within Spain.” He added, “I am sure that sports fans will really enjoy our programmes at these magnificent facilities.”
Expansion of the Rafa Nadal Academy
This centre is part of the Rafa Nadal Academy by Movistar’s expansion, initiated in 2018. The Marbella facility offers programmes tailored for players of all ages and skill levels. It joins other centres in Costa Mujeres (Mexico), Sani (Greece), and Hong Kong. Additionally, academies are located in Manacor and Kuwait, with the Rafa Nadal Tennis Program established in Egypt.
Hotel Don Carlos: A historic venue
Opened in 1969 as Elviria Hilton, the Hotel Don Carlos has a rich history and has undergone several renovations. It was among the first establishments in Andalucia to promote group tourism, conventions, and conferences. Since 2021, Brookfield Asset Management has managed the hotel.
Nadal’s career: From debut to farewell
Nadal’s illustrious career began in 2004 in Seville, where he contributed to Spain’s Davis Cup victory over the United States at La Cartuja, at just 18. Spain now boasts six Davis Cup titles, five of which featured Nadal. His remarkable journey concluded in 2024 during the Davis Cup held at Málaga’s Martín Carpena arena, marking the end of an era in tennis history.
