Malaga is not only a beautiful province for hiking but also offers plenty of cycling routes. The Sierra Norte in the north of the province has long had a long-distance route for cyclists. Malaga has now expanded the cycling network by more than sixty routes for the sporty cyclist.

The Sierra Norte is known for its beautiful varied landscape. Steep mountains, deep valleys, and lush forests make the area an ideal place for nature lovers and hikers. That Malaga also offers fantastic opportunities for cyclists is evident from the expansion of the cycling network in the region. The province is adding 1,300 kilometers to the already existing network of 900 kilometers. This makes it possible to explore large parts of the province and its beautiful natural parks by bike.

Attraction for the sporty tourist

The province of Malaga is pleased with the new plan and sees cycling as a healthy activity. Moreover, the extensive cycling network is a great attraction for the sporty tourist. The new routes are recognized as ‘Bike Territory‘. This is an initiative by the Spanish Cycling Federation (RFEC) to promote cycling. The more than 60 new routes are included in two new long-distance routes: ‘Gran Senda Ciclable de Málaga’ (long-distance cycling route of Malaga) and the ‘Corredor Verde del Guadalhorce’ (green corridor of the Guadalhorce river). Enthusiasts can enjoy not only the stunning nature but also the picturesque white villages in different parts of the province by bike.

With the two new long-distance routes and the existing cycling network in the Sierra Norte, a large part of the province of Malaga can now be explored by bike. All information about the three routes can be found on the Bike Territory website. RFEC has also developed an app for Apple and Android that allows cyclists to download routes: yosoyciclista (I am a cyclist).

Gran Senda de Málaga Ciclable

Those who want to cycle the Gran Senda de Málaga Ciclable have a choice of more than 40 stages totaling nearly 900 kilometers. The long-distance cycling path crosses 54 village and city centers and 61 municipalities. Cycling is a fantastic way to discover the unique province of Malaga. Meanwhile, you can enjoy the immense variety in landscape, nature, and local culture.

The route first runs along the relatively flat and attractive coastline of Malaga. In addition, the long-distance path for cyclists crosses the interior, where paths and mountains form magical routes for all levels. The Bike Territory certificate guarantees that the routes are safe for cyclists.

Because the province of Malaga has such a varied landscape, there are routes for all levels. From flat stages on wide paths to more technical and steep routes in the mountains. The network is thus accessible to every sporty cyclist. From families to keen amateurs and cycling clubs. From recreational cyclists to road racers or mountain bikers.

Green Corridor Guadalhorce

The ‘Cirredor Verde del Guadalhorce‘ is an ideal destination for cyclists. With this new long-distance path, Malaga has added 20 new stages and about 400 kilometers to the cycling network. The routes follow the banks of the Guadalhorce river, and there are options for all types of users. Cyclists experience the natural landscapes from the Desembocadura de Guadalhorce to the Desfiladero de los Gitanos, near the world-famous Caminito del Rey. Once again, the province of Malaga has laid out a unique cycling route for everyone who wants to enjoy the cultural and natural wealth of Spain in a sporty way.
