MADRID – One person was killed and 24 others were slightly injured after a fire broke out at the San Carlos Clinical Hospital in Madrid. The cause is currently under investigation.
The incident took place in a room on the fifth floor at around 1.00 am between Saturday to Sunday. A 68-year-old man was killed and 24 people were injured as a result of the fire. The San Carlos Clinical Hospital is located in the Moncloa-Aravaca district of Madrid.
According to hospital sources, the fire started in a specific room and its origins are still under investigation. Fortunately, 17 patients were evacuated to another part of the hospital without incident and their families were notified.
Quick action emergency services prevented worse
Cadena SER writes that thanks to the “correct action” of the hospital’s fire protocol and the rapid response of the first intervention team, the fire did not spread to other parts of the building, the hospital sources said.
A total of 24 people, including police officers, security guards and nursing staff, required medical attention. Fortunately, their injuries were minor and they have all been discharged after a positive recovery period. Authorities continue to investigate the incident to determine the cause of the fire.
