The Spanish supermarket chain Mercadona has once again lowered the prices of a large number of products. According to the company, customers can save up to €150 annually on their groceries.

In a press release, Mercadona emphasised that it has implemented a new price reduction across its range. As a result, more than 1,000 products have become cheaper in 2024. To make groceries more affordable for consumers, the company claims to have invested €150 million to reduce the prices of their products.

High quality at the best price

“These efforts, which are necessary for the households that rely on Mercadona daily, contribute to offering a high-quality shopping cart at the best possible price on the market,” the company stated. Among the products that have seen price reductions are various food items such as fish, bread, pasta, and olive oil.

For olive oil, Mercadona has again reduced prices for the Virgin and Extra Virgin varieties. With the reductions applied since January to the prices of the three variants Suave/Intenso, Virgin, and Extra Virgin, Mercadona has lowered the price of olive oil in its supermarkets by an average of 14%, according to the company.

Mercadona price reductions thanks to the efforts of all employees

The Director of Price Strategy at Mercadona emphasised “the work done by the purchasing departments, suppliers, and specialised intermediaries” to implement the cost reductions as quickly as possible. This ensures that customers can fully benefit from the advantage. He added that the price reductions would not be possible “without the commitment of the 104,000 employees and the 3,000 suppliers of the supermarket chain. Only through efforts on all fronts is it possible to sustainably implement price reductions without compromising on quality.”
