VALENCIA – In the village of La Pobla de Farnals, in the province of Valencia, a 61-year-old man was killed during bull running. Another man was injured by the attack of a bull.
The fatal victim was taken by a bull on the horns Saturday during the festivities of the Bous al carrer‘ – bulls in the street. He later died at the hospital. The condition of the injured man – a relative of the deceased – is stable.
The incident occurred at 7.30 pm, when two bulls were released. It was the second one that attacked the men and pushed them against bars. Tragically, they did not reach a safety point in time. The fatal victim was speared in his side. His liver and lung were also hit. He underwent surgery but died of cardiac arrest.
The injured man had several stab wounds in his legs and is currently in a stable condition at Hospital Clínico after successful surgery. He resides there in the adult CPR and critical care unit. His recovery is proceeding slowly. Moreover, a second operation is planned for the injury to his hand.
Bull running is a controversial tradition in which they chase a running mob. Despite growing protests, the tradition is still honoured in more than a thousand Spanish municipalities.
