A 29-year-old British woman has been found dead in a cabin on a yacht moored in the port of Palma in Mallorca, with the Guardia Civil opening an investigation as forensic teams await the results of an autopsy.
Local reporting in Mallorca says the woman was discovered on Sunday evening on a vessel berthed in the Moll Vell area of the marina. The alarm was raised after she failed to respond, with emergency services attending the scene.
Investigators have said there were no initial signs of violence inside the cabin, although the cause of death has not been confirmed and is expected to depend on the post-mortem findings.
What’s been confirmed so far
Mallorca outlets, including the Majorca Daily Bulletin and eldiario.es (Illes Balears), report that the woman was British and aged 29, after some early coverage elsewhere initially gave different ages.
The Guardia Civil’s judicial police and forensic services have been involved in the initial examination of the cabin, with the investigation continuing while the autopsy is completed.
Open investigation
In Spain, it is normal for deaths in uncertain circumstances to be treated as an open investigation until forensic results are known. If the post-mortem confirms a non-suspicious cause, police will typically close the file without further action.
For British nationals, the UK government’s guidance on what happens when someone dies in Spain sets out the process around post-mortems, registration, and documentation, and how families can access support.
