Best European conference destination

Madrid has received the award for best European destination for conferences and events for the sixth consecutive year (Europe’s Leading Meetings & Conference Destination 2023).

An award that demonstrates the confidence of professionals within the meetings sector in Madrid. The Spanish capital once again surpassed cities such as Copenhagen, Paris, Vienna, Barcelona, Amsterdam and Berlin. It also confirms the excellent reputation Madrid has gained in this tourism segment, despite the challenges faced by the tourism sector as a whole, over time, having received this award year after year since 2018.

World title

Madrid can now also defend its title as the world’s best convention destination, which it has held for four years, at the grand final gala of the World Travel Awards, which will take place in the coming months. There, the Spanish capital will compete against the winning destinations of the rest of the regional awards: the Middle East, Asia, Latin America, Africa and the Indian Ocean, and North America and the Caribbean.

Quality and professionalism

The city council highlights the work of the Madrid Convention Bureau (MCB) and the public and private agents that make up the Madrid convention industry. The Madrid Convention Bureau plays a “fundamental” role in this respect. It promotes essential public-private partnerships and represents more than 220 Madrid companies from all business sectors that depend on conventions.

The municipal body is currently finalising its promotional plan for 2024, in which its members will again play an important and visible role. A strategy aimed at promoting Madrid as a destination in a coordinated way in the main outbound markets for congresses, such as the United States and Europe.

Participation in trade fairs and other professional meetings is planned, as are familiarisation trips and support for professional trade fairs. All these initiatives are aimed at maintaining Madrid’s position at the top.
