The Guardia Civil, through Operation Meregum, has resolved a series of violent robberies that took place in the municipalities of Los Alcázares and San Pedro del Pinatar in Murcia. The investigation led to the arrest of a suspect accused of three counts of robbery with violence and intimidation, including an armed assault on a brothel.

The first incident occurred at an ATM in Los Alcázares, where the suspect reportedly threatened a victim with a pistol. When the victim resisted, the suspect fled the scene without taking any money.

Minutes later, in a different street in Los Alcázares, another victim was assaulted at gunpoint. This time, the suspect forcibly took her handbag, knocking her to the ground during a struggle.

Witnesses reported seeing the suspect flee in a van, which became a key piece of evidence in the investigation. Shortly after, the suspect attempted to use stolen credit cards at a petrol station in San Pedro del Pinatar.

Armed assault on a brothel

In a more violent incident, the suspect targeted a brothel in San Pedro del Pinatar. He entered the premises armed with a pistol, threatening the occupants to hand over cash. The victims complied, and the suspect fled with the stolen money.

Arrest and evidence seized

The Guardia Civil in Murcia arrested the suspect of the violent robberies as he was about to enter his vehicle. During the operation, officers confiscated a firearm believed to have been used in the robberies. The weapon was later identified as a simulated firearm, designed to resemble a real pistol.

The suspect has been charged with three counts of robbery with violence and intimidation and has been placed at the disposal of the judiciary.

Investigative efforts and public safety

The success of Operation Meregum highlights the Guardia Civil’s commitment to resolving violent crimes and ensuring public safety in Murcia. The swift identification of the suspect, along with the recovery of key evidence, prevented further incidents.

Residents are reminded to report suspicious activities and take precautions when withdrawing money or in unfamiliar areas. The Guardia Civil continues to emphasise vigilance to combat violent crime effectively.

A clear message

This arrest sends a strong message about the consequences of violent crime in Spain. The collaboration between witnesses, victims, and law enforcement was instrumental in bringing the suspect to justice and restoring a sense of security to the affected communities.
