Metrovalencia Fallas strike dates have now been set for mid-March, with planned stoppages also affecting Alicante’s TRAM network. The action is expected to take place on some of the busiest days of the year in Valencia, when the city is packed for Fallas and public transport is at maximum capacity.
The walkouts have been called by the train drivers’ union SEMAF, which says it has raised safety and working conditions concerns with Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV) without reaching an agreement.
Which days are affected in Valencia
In Valencia, SEMAF has called partial strikes on 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 24 and 26 March — with several of those dates falling during the heart of Fallas.
The strike windows vary by day and include early-hours, midday and evening periods on the busiest festival dates, according to published schedules.
Alicante TRAM: six dates and peak commuting hours
In Alicante province, the TRAM stoppages are set for 13, 16, 18, 20, 24 and 26 March.
The published timetable includes three blocks on affected days: 7.00 am – 10.00 am, 1.00 pm – 4.00 pm and 7.00 pm – 9.00 pm — the sort of hours that can quickly ripple into missed connections and longer waits.
What travellers should do now
If you’re travelling during Fallas — or commuting in Alicante on any of the strike dates — the key is not guessing.
FGV typically publishes minimum service levels and live notices close to the day. The most reliable place to check is the official Metrovalencia alerts page, which is updated as incidents and service changes are confirmed.
For real-time updates on the day, Metrovalencia also posts live service information on X.
In Alicante, the equivalent official hub is TRAM d’Alacant — Avisos e incidencias, with additional updates via TRAM d’Alacant on X.
If you’re arriving with luggage, travelling with children, or trying to make a long-distance connection, build extra time in and consider simple backups on strike days: walking routes between central areas, local buses, or pre-booked taxis for fixed appointments.
