Spain has started the week under a wet Atlantic pattern, with widespread cloud and rain pushing across much of the Peninsula. The heaviest, most persistent downpours are expected in the west, while parts of the east and the Mediterranean side may see little or no rain.
AEMET’s warning map shows yellow alerts for rain and storms in several areas on Monday, alongside snow-related notices in parts of the interior.
Where the warnings are today
A national weather briefing published Monday morning says AEMET has activated yellow warnings for storms in Andalucia, specifically in Cádiz and Sevilla, with the possibility of very strong gusts alongside storm activity.
The same report lists rain warnings in parts of Galicia, Extremadura, and Castilla y León, with snow alerts also active in areas including Ourense, Cuenca, and Zamora.

What the pattern looks like
RTVE’s weather coverage describes the arrival of warmer, humid air from the west, followed by the passage of a front bringing generally overcast skies and rain for large parts of the Peninsula. Rain is forecast to be weaker in the east and may not reach the Mediterranean façade or the Balearics.
In the west, particularly Galicia and parts of the western Central System, there is also a risk of locally stronger bursts later in the day, potentially accompanied by thunderstorms.
What this means for travel
For drivers, Monday’s most awkward moments are often the simplest: reduced visibility in heavy showers, standing water on secondary roads, and sudden gusts during storm cells. If you’re travelling through warning areas, keep an eye on updates before setting off and avoid “just one more shortcut” through flood-prone stretches.
For mountain areas, the combination of rain, snow warnings, and fluctuating snow levels is a reminder to check conditions if you’re heading to higher ground.
The week ahead
AEMET’s own outlook suggests the first week of February is likely to remain unsettled, dominated by Atlantic lows bringing wet conditions to large areas, particularly in the west and south, with snow in mountain ranges.
In plain terms: keep an umbrella nearby.
