Thief scaled facades to steal from hotel rooms in Lloret de Mar

A man has been arrested in Lloret de Mar (Girona) for a series of hotel thefts after allegedly climbing building facades to gain access while guests slept inside.

The Mossos d’Esquadra began investigating following reports of break-ins at several hotels in the coastal resort town, starting in the early hours of 22 June. The suspect reportedly scaled the outside of buildings to enter first-floor rooms, stealing cash and mobile phones before escaping undetected.

On 7 July, a similar hotel theft occurred in another hotel where the thief made off with three mobile phones. He fled the scene by jumping from one balcony to another until reaching the street.

More hotel room thefts mid-July

Two further break-ins took place during the nights of 10 and 11 July at a third hotel. There, eight mobile phones and €60 in cash were stolen from rooms on the first floor.

The final attempts happened on 26 and 29 July, when the suspect tried to enter rooms in a fourth hotel but was spotted both times. He escaped by leaping from the balconies.

Suspect identified and arrested

According to Hosteltur, Police in Blanes had been gathering evidence since the first reported thefts. Therefore, they were able to identify the suspect. A young man with a significant criminal record.

He was arrested on the afternoon of 3 August and is accused of eight counts of burglary. The following day, he appeared before the duty court in Blanes.
