As temperatures rise across Spain, keeping dogs cool becomes a growing concern. While many beaches enforce restrictions on pets during the summer, several specially designed dog water parks are stepping in to offer a safe and refreshing alternative.

These parks are becoming increasingly popular among owners who want to include their pets in summer outings without compromising their comfort or safety. Unlike public spaces that can be crowded, too hot underfoot, or off-limits for animals, dog water parks are tailored to dogs’ needs — with salt-treated pools, shaded rest areas, and even agility courses.

Growing number of parks cater for canine visitors

In the province of Alicante, two such facilities — Worldog in La Marina (Elche) and Trustresort near Dénia — have seen a surge in visitors during warmer months. Both parks prioritise animal welfare and ensure all canine guests are vaccinated before entry.

At Worldog, dogs can swim in a gently sloping pool filled with salt-treated water, kinder to their skin than traditional chlorine. The park also features an agility circuit complete with walkways, tunnels, and obstacles to stimulate both body and mind. Playful or reactive dogs are welcome too, provided they remain on a long lead.

A well-stocked shop offers everything from water toys to dog-friendly accessories. However, visitors cannot bring their own food or drink. The park provides all essentials on site to keep the experience safe and convenient.

Trustresort: Slides, waterfalls and space to play

Just 8km from Dénia, Trustresort boasts one of Spain’s largest pools for dogs, the Aquacan. Complete with slides, water jets, and artificial waterfalls, it allows dogs to socialise or simply cool off. A bar on site provides refreshments for owners, while staff maintain a watchful eye over canine interactions.

Trustresort accepts dogs of all breeds, focusing instead on their individual temperament. Social dogs are grouped together, while others are managed more cautiously. Ultimately, the park reminds visitors that the responsibility lies with the owner.

Aquapark Canino near Barcelona blends leisure for pets and people

Further north, Aquapark Canino, located just outside Barcelona, was Spain’s first water park exclusively for dogs. With two large pools, rolling dunes, and open green areas, the park is designed to encourage freedom and fun. Dogs can swim, play fetch, or rest in shaded gardens.

Facilities here extend beyond canine care. There’s a chill-out zone for owners, a restaurant with vegan options, and even a creperie. The park aims to create a shared experience where both dogs and humans can relax and recharge during the summer heat.
