MALAGA – Two people died as a fire broke out in Fuengirola yesterday afternoon in a residential building on Miramar Avenue. A further five people were injured. Three were taken to the Costa del Sol hospital, and two were treated on the spot.
The people who died were two men aged 41 and 66. According to Emergencias 112 Andalucía, the fire that took their lives broke out on the terrace of an apartment building in Fuengirola (Málaga).
Emergency calls to 112
Several citizens called 112 to ask for help because there was a fire on the terrace of a building located on Avenida de Miramar. The coordination centre immediately activated the firefighters, the National Police, the Local Police, the Civil Guard and the Health Emergency Centre (CES) 061.
Emergencias 112 indicated that two men (41 and 66 years old) had died in the fire and five people were injured. Of the injured, a 36-year old man, 1 year-old baby, and a 70-year-old woman were taken to the Costa del Sol Hospital. The other two injured were men aged 55 and 56. They received assistance at the scene. Several people were also affected by smoke.

Fuengirola City Council communicated the sorrow of the entire city. Furthermore it wished a speedy recovery to all residents who were injured. It also thanked, and acknowledged the collaboration provided by the Benalmádena and Mijas Firefighters, as well as the National Police and the Emergency Health Services that have participated in the operation.
Three days of mourning
The City Council of Fuengirola tweeted its “dismay at the sad death of the two men in the fire that occurred”. Consequently it has “decreed three days of official mourning starting from 9.00 am today.
