Roadworks on A-7 near Fuengirola, Mijas and Marbella

A-7

MIJAS – If you live in or visit the Costa del Sol, there is a good chance that you sometimes use the A-7. That is the highway between Málaga and Algeciras that takes you along this popular holiday coast.

The roadworks actually concern the AP-7 toll road. The A-7 is free from Málaga to Fuengirola. But from Fuengirola to Estepona you have to pay if you go on the toll road. Many people resort to this road because the only other direct connection between the above places is the N-340 national road. Traffic often comes to a standstill here. The tunnel through San Pedro, for example, is a bottleneck, but traffic is also regularly blocked at La Cala de Mijas. There are almost never any problems on the toll road and drivers are assured they can continue driving without holdups.

Except for the near future. Road works are planned from Monday, September 25, to October 31. The Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (Mitma) has announced that there will be lane closures in both directions, towards Algeciras and Barcelona.

What should you pay attention to?

The work will take place on the section between kilometres 1013.145 and 1041.230. That is between Fuengirola and the Nagüeles exit in Marbella. However, don’t worry, as one lane will always remain open to traffic.

When are the closures?

The closures take place on Mondays between midnight and 6.00 am. From Tuesday to Friday the closures are between 10.00 pm and 6.00 am. No closures are planned on weekends and during the day.

What is the purpose of the work?

With a budget of €6.2 million, the work will focus on replacing the expansion joints of various bridge sections on this route. The horizontal signage and definitive markings will also be improved.

No alternative routes

The ministry indicates that due to the specifications of the highway, alternative routes are not possible during the work. We have already discussed the only alternative above and is the N-340.
