Indian variant

The Lisbon metropolitan area closed over the weekend due to the outbreak of the Delta or Indian coronavirus variant. Furthermore, schools in the Algarve have been closed to prevent its spread. The Ministry of Health expects this variant to displace the alpha or British strain as dominant by the end of August.

Cogesa Expats

The Andalucian Ministry of Health indicated it is difficult to trace all possible cases. This is because the trip was organised on the initiative of the pupils themselves and not by the school. Some pupils also came from various private and semi-private schools.

In addition to this outbreak, Public Health has also reported an outbreak of infection among schoolchildren in Almeria. This is also linked to an excursion. However, no further details have been provided for the time being.
