Marbella Football Centre hosts week of women´s football

Marbella Football Centre is set to become the epicenter of women’s football in February with the much-anticipated Marbella Week of Football for Absolute and Under-23 National Teams. The event, taking place from February 22nd to 28th, will showcase top-tier teams from around the world. It will feature both senior and under-23 national squads.

The football extravaganza will be hosted at various MFC fields in Marbella, including Marbella Football Centre and Banús Football Centre.

Absolute national teams tournament

The Marbella Week of Football for Absolute National Teams will witness the participation of football powerhouses such as England, Italy, Austria, Poland, Denmark, and Switzerland. The matches kick off on Friday, 23rd February, with Poland facing Switzerland at 5.00 pm at Marbella Football Centre. Other fixtures include England vs Austria at Nuevo Mirador Stadium (Algeciras) on the same day at 8.45 pm. Also at the Nuevo Mirador Stadium in Algeciras, England will take on Italy on Tuesday, 27th February at 6.00 pm. Earlier on the 27th, Switzerland will face Poland at 5.00 pm at the Marbella Football Centre. Finally, Austria vs Denmark on Wednesday, 28th February, at 4.30 pm at Marbella Football Centre.

Under-23 national teams tournament

Simultaneously, the Marbella Week of Football for Under-23 National Teams promises high-action with the participation of Spain, England, Netherlands, Denmark, and Sweden. Notably, all U-23 National Team matches are open to the public with no entrance fee required.

The matches are as follows:

  • England U-23 vs Spain U-23 on Thursday, 22nd February, at 12.00 noon at Marbella Football Centre
  • Denmark U-23 vs Netherlands U-23  also play on Thursday, 22nd but at 4.00 pm at the Banús Football Centre
  • Sweden U-23 vs Denmark U-23 on Sunday, 25th February, at 3.00 pm at Banús Football Centre
  • Netherlands U-23 vs England U-23 at 1.00 pm at the Banús Football Centre on Monday 26th February

Young Lionesses in Marbella

Furthermore, England women’s under-23s, known as the Young Lionesses, will kick off their 2024 campaign with a warm weather camp in Marbella. Head coach Emma Coates has selected a talented 24-player squad for the camp, culminating in the two matches noted above against Spain and the Netherlands. The camp will provide a unique opportunity for the Young Lionesses to join forces with the senior squad, emphasising the interconnectedness of the England pathway.
