Ibiza Rocks Hotel has cancelled all events following the deaths of two young British men in separate fatal falls. The incidents, just weeks apart, have shocked the island’s music and tourism scene.

The San Antonio hotel, a popular live music venue known for hosting international acts such as Dua Lipa and David Guetta, issued a statement confirming its decision. The move comes just days before its scheduled summer events were due to begin, with headliners including Dizzee Rascal and Rudimental.

In an official statement, the hotel expressed its shock and sorrow: “Our priority is to support those affected and their loved ones during this incredibly difficult time, and to fully assist authorities with their investigations. The safety and wellbeing of our guests has always been, and will continue to be, our highest priority.”

Two fatal falls in two weeks

The most recent incident occurred on the morning of Monday 21 July, when 19-year-old Gary Kelly from the UK died after falling from a third floor at the hotel. Emergency services were called to the scene but could only confirm his death. Local police stated the fall happened in an outdoor area of the complex. Initial CCTV footage suggests it may have been accidental, but an autopsy and further investigation are underway.

Police have appealed for potential witnesses to come forward.

Kelly’s family released a heartbreaking statement: “Our hearts are broken beyond words. Our beautiful boy has gone to the other side, and we are absolutely lost. We ask everyone to respect our privacy as we try to process this tragic news. You’ll always be our Gary. Sleep well.”

Just two weeks earlier, another fatal fall had taken place at the same hotel. Evan Thomson, a 26-year-old Scottish tourist, also died after falling from a significant height. His mother, Lel Kellighan, shared the news publicly, writing: “It absolutely breaks my heart to say that earlier this week my son Evan suffered a tragic accident while on holiday in Ibiza with his friends and sadly passed away.”

Concerns over venue safety

The deaths have raised questions about safety measures at the hotel. This venue attracts over 2,500 visitors to its live shows during the peak summer season.

Ibiza Rocks had been preparing to mark its 20th anniversary this month with a full calendar of events. All performances have now been suspended until further notice.

The decision to cancel is expected to have a noticeable impact on the island’s tourism and nightlife industry, particularly at the height of the summer season. The hotel reiterated that its focus remains on supporting the victims’ families and cooperating fully with the ongoing investigations.
