Valencia is bracing for a stormy start to the week as AEMET (State Meteorological Agency) has issued a yellow weather warning for heavy rain and thunder storms on Tuesday, October 15. The alert will be active from 8.00 am until 8.00 pm, with the potential for significant rainfall throughout the day.

Accumulations of up to 60 litres per square metre are expected, with downpours of 20-30 litres in just one hour in some areas.

Rain and storms to affect Valencia province and Castellón

The interior north of Valencia province will be under yellow alert starting at 8.00 am on Tuesday. Here, storms could bring up to 20 litres of rain in an hour, with the possibility of accompanying strong winds. Castellón province will see a double yellow alert from 10.00 am, with forecasts of up to 30 litres of rain per hour in inland areas and 20 litres along the coast. Total accumulations could reach 60 litres over a 12-hour period, particularly in the southern interior of the province.

While these areas are under official alert, AEMET has warned that rain and thunderstorms are expected across the entire Valencian Community, including the city of Valencia. The heaviest rainfall will likely be concentrated in the north, but showers could develop in other parts of the region as well.

More rain expected later in the week

This won’t be the last of the rain this week. Although Tuesday will see the most intense storms, scattered showers are likely to continue throughout the week, albeit with less intensity. There is also a possibility that a DANA (Isolated Depression at High Levels) will bring more instability to the Mediterranean towards the weekend, though the exact location and impact on the Valencian Community are yet to be determined.

Temperatures and winds to vary

Along with the rain, changes in temperature are expected. Minimum temperatures will rise slightly in the north, while southern areas will see a slight drop. Maximum temperatures are forecast to fall across the region, particularly inland. Winds will be moderate along the coast, shifting from northeast to southeast by the afternoon, with occasional increases in intensity.

As the week progresses, cloud cover will ease, but rain will remain a possibility, especially in northern areas. By Friday, the weather may be further impacted by the approaching DANA, with more detailed forecasts expected later in the week.

Valencian residents are advised to stay updated with weather warnings and take necessary precautions during the heavy rain and storm activity.
