Once again, Spain has been rocked by a gang rape. The Policia Nacional have arrested five men as the suspected perpetrators of a gang rape of a 26-year-old woman in Marbella. The victim had reported the incident.
The alleged gang rape took place on March 5, but was revealed to the media today, International Women’s Day. According to police sources, the arrested men are between the ages of 19 and 33. These are Germans and Kosovars. They are believed to have taken the young woman, from Mongolia, to a hotel where they sexually assaulted her. They may have given the victim chemical agents. However, that has not yet been confirmed, and the police is still awaiting the results of the investigation.
Investigation into the degree of involvement of alleged perpetrators
The extent of the involvement of the five suspects in the gang rape is also not yet clear. This is still being investigated. The five arrested were handed over to the court, Juzgado de Instrucción number 1, of Marbella this Friday.
Chemical Submission Prior to Sexual Abuse
Chemical submission occurs when a victim is subjected to a substance without her consent that alters her level of consciousness and overrides her will. In that case, the victim is involuntarily given substances that render them defenceless or have an inhibition-reducing effect.
According to data from the Clínico, from January to June 2022, 12 women who were assaulted were treated in this hospital in Marbella. Five of them – just under half – involved chemical submission. These victims were between 20 and 45 years old. Eight were Spanish and the rest foreign.
In most cases, the profile of the victim is that of a young woman, who remembers being at a party and woke up “in another place, often naked, dazed and with the feeling that something happened, without knowing exactly what”.
