FC Barcelona need 200 million euros

Barcelona Football Club has begun preparing an economic viability plan to present to La Liga as soon as possible. The 200 million euros plan is vital for the club to sign new players for the next season, including Gavi and Araujo, whose registrations are currently on hold.

That’s why the club urgently needs to have the plan ready. However, the relationship between the two entities is at its worst after President Laporta’s comments on Javier Tebas on Monday. On Thursday, April 17th, the president of Barcelona, Joan Laporta, criticised Javier Tebas, the president of La Liga, for his handling of the “Negreira case“.

Contrary to what some forums suggest, reducing the first-team salary is not the solution to obtaining the 200 million euros. Barcelona’s current wage bill is acceptable for the next season.

The director of Barcelona, Mateu Alemany, has worked hard to reduce the club’s wage bill over time. Key exits such as Antoine Griezmann and Gerard Piqué’s contract termination, and Busquets’ end of the contract have helped to release significant wages. The club still needs to continue working on the first team’s salaries, but it is not the main problem right now. The issue is that the club forecasts losses of 200 million euros according to Marca.

Reduce expenses

The club needs to urgently reduce expenses in all departments and generate more income through more sponsors to increase revenue. Furthermore, the spending cuts concern all the departments of the club. This includes reducing significantly the salaries of athletes in other sections, which affects the financial fair play. Although the club is not obligated by the financial fair play, one of the options available to the club is selling a player. This will generate extraordinary income.

Temporary move to Montjuïc

FC Barcelona is expecting a loss of €93 million due to their temporary move to Montjuïc starting next season. The club plans to return to the new Camp Nou in November 2024 with a 70% capacity. Moreover, this will result in a loss of €38 million for the 2024-2025 season. However, the club expects to earn €151 million in the 2025-2026 season after the stadium is fully constructed.
