MALLORCA – A 56-year-old British man fell almost 50 metres to his death from Es Colomer mirador in Formentor, Mallorca. Futhermore, reports suggest it was suicide.
The area is normally known as a stunning beauty spot in the north of the island. It is an elevated lookout area with stone steps up to panoramic views of the sea and surrounding cliffs. It also has rugged terrain and rocks with the sea 50 metres below. There were people in the area at the time of the incident.
Emergency Services
Emergency services were called to the tragic scene yesterday afternoon (Wednesday March 31). However, despite a helicopter team reaching the man, they could not save him. Due to the difficult terrain, a mountain rescue team used ropes to descend Es Colomer. Guardia Civil and the Fire brigade recovered the body of the man on the rocks below. He was later taken away by helicopter and a postmortem will be carried out.
As reported by Mallorca Daily Bulletin, witnesses suggest that the man, who lived in Pollensa, had climbed onto the railing, and thrown himself off.
Eyewitness as British man fell
Police are understood to be questioning an eyewitness who is said to have seen a man close to the railing.
