At least four Spanish restaurants in world’s top 100 restaurants

Every year, The World’s 50 Best Restaurants comes out with a ranking of the world’s top 100 restaurants. Although the winner will not be chosen until 5th October,  it is already known four Spanish are in the top 100.

It remains a secret which restaurants will be in the final fifty and which will be crowned as the best in the world. As a preview of the event, the restaurants in the 51st to 100th place in this ranking have already been announced.

Spanish chef nominated again

One of the Spanish chefs who was previously praised with a 57th place in the 100 best chefs in the world, now finds his restaurant on this list. Chef Quique Dacosta from Extremadura was 74th with his restaurant of the same name in Dénia. The jury especially praised ‘his legendary version of the Valencian paella’ . They also like that he offers varying menus in which aesthetics, technique and technology are perfectly combined.

Four Spanish restaurants 

Dacosta improved its position by seven places in this ranking compared to the previous ranking in 2019. There are several Spanish restaurants in this year’s ranking. The Arzak restaurant in San Sebastián is 92nd; Chef ngel León’s restaurant, Aponiente, finished in 79th place. Bilbao’s restaurant Nerua is currently the best-placed Spanish restaurant with 53rd place.

While the top 50 are still under wraps, we do know the full list of top 100 restaurants contiains eateries from 22 different countries on 6 continents. The country with the most entries in this ranking is Japan.

How did Spain perform in the last ranking?

In 2019, the last edition of this ranking, Asador Etxebarri in Axpe was third best restaurant in the world. Mugaritz in San Sebastián took seventh place. In this edition, no fewer than eleven Spanish restaurants were in the ranking of ‘Best restaurants in the world 2019.
