Carlos Alcaraz, at just 21, has solidified his status as a Spanish tennis legend by securing his second Wimbledon title and fourth Grand Slam. He triumphed over Novak Djokovic, a seven-time champion, in a stunning display, winning in straight sets: 6-2, 6-2, 7-6.

Alcaraz began the match strongly, breaking Djokovic’s serve early and maintaining a nearly flawless performance to take the first set 6-2. Djokovic, known for his resilience, struggled to counter Alcaraz’s game.

Second set

The second set mirrored the first, with Alcaraz breaking early and dominating throughout. Djokovic’s frustration led to uncharacteristic errors, including a double fault that handed Alcaraz a 5-2 lead, which he quickly capitalised on to win the set 6-2.

Djokovic’s fightback and Alcaraz’s triumph

Djokovic showed resilience in the third set, saving four break points and finding his rhythm. He even had a chance to break, but Alcaraz thwarted him and eventually broke Djokovic’s serve. Despite Djokovic forcing a tiebreak, Alcaraz’s precision and strong angles secured his victory in the tiebreak, clinching his second Wimbledon title.

Historic achievement

Alcaraz joins the ranks of Spanish tennis greats like Manolo Santana and Arantxa Sánchez Vicario, with only Rafael Nadal having more Grand Slam titles. His achievement of winning Roland Garros and Wimbledon in the same season at age 21 highlights his immense potential.

Alcaraz’s career

Since bursting onto the scene in 2020, Alcaraz has consistently demonstrated his exceptional talent. At 17, he already aspired to be the world’s best, a goal he pursued vigorously. In 2020, he entered the ATP top-500 as the youngest player, and by 2022, he won the US Open, becoming the youngest world No. 1 in ATP history at 19 years and 130 days, breaking Lleyton Hewitt’s record by over 16 months.
