MALAGA – A beauty salon owner in Fuengirola has been arrested for allegedly performing invasive cosmetic procedures without the required medical qualifications. Some clients were left with temporary facial disfigurements, including drooping eyelids and swollen, shut eyes.
As reported by Diario Sur, Policia Nacional confirmed on Thursday that the woman is under investigation for suspected professional malpractice and operating without the mandatory training or certification. The arrest follows a complaint lodged by local healthcare authorities. They flagged the salon after receiving reports that injectable aesthetic treatments were being carried out by unlicensed staff.
According to a statement from the Provincial Police Headquarters in Málaga, officers from the Violent Crime and Specialised Delinquency Unit (UDEV) launched an inspection into the business after concerns were raised about unsafe cosmetic procedures being offered to the public.
During the investigation, several former clients came forward. They confirmed they had suffered visible damage after undergoing aesthetic enhancements at the salon. While none had initially filed official complaints, some admitted they had experienced significant side effects. These included partial facial paralysis and swelling that left their eyes temporarily shut.
Officers later verified that the salon owner had no formal qualifications to carry out such treatments and lacked the proper medical training required under Spanish law. The woman has since been taken into custody and is facing charges of professional misconduct and operating without a licence.
Public urged to check practitioner credentials
This incident has reignited concern in Spain over the growing number of unregulated beauty services, especially those involving injectables such as Botox and dermal fillers. Health authorities continue to urge the public to verify a practitioner’s credentials before undergoing any cosmetic treatment. Unqualified procedures not only violate legal standards but can also carry serious health risks.
Legal proceedings to follow
The suspect remains under investigation, and the case is now in the hands of the judicial authorities. Further charges may be brought if additional victims come forward. Police have not ruled out further inspections of similar establishments in the Costa del Sol region.
