VALENCIA – The president of the Generalitat Valenciana, Ximo Puig, has announced the start of the de-escalation from Tuesday, September 7, with a progressive easing of restrictions over the next month to prevent coronavirus infections.
This is, of course, dependant on the positive trend continuing during this fifth wave.
14-day incidence rate
The 14-day incidence rate averaged over the whole of Spain as of September 1 is 221.76 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. Whereas for Valencia this figure is even lower, at 173.35 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. However, these figures are still far short of what the World Health Organisation (WHO) would consider as being under control.
Full of optimism
In a recent tweet, Puig stated, “We begin a political course full of optimism. 76% of Valencians over the age of 12 already have a complete vaccine schedule, and almost 90% have at least one dose. A collective success. Overcoming the pandemic, reactivating ourselves as a people”. He set himself the goal of October 9 – The Valencian Community Day Festival (Día de la Comunidad Valenciana).
New measures to be approved
The Generalitat plans to meet on Monday at the Interdepartmental Table for the management and prevention of Covid-19. Furthermore, to evaluate the epidemiological situation and approve the new measures against the coronavirus.
In this regard, he is considering maintaining the closure of nightlife and the limitations to the hospitality sector as the vaccination plan continues to advance. In the case of opting for an extension of the curfew, the Generalitat will need the endorsement of the Superior Court of Justice of the Valencian Community.
New restrictions will come into force on September 7. This is the day before the start of the new school year.
