We have #OnlyOneEarth. Let´s take care of it! This is the official theme for World Environment Day 2022 which took place today, June 5.
World Environment Day is the United Nations’ main vehicle for encouraging worldwide awareness and action for the environment. Following the 1972 Stockholm UN Conference on the Human Environment, this Day has been marked each year since 1973. This year´s campaign is with the hashtag #OnlyOneEarth.
Furthermore, it has also become a vital platform for promoting progress on environmental issues of the Sustainable Development Goals. And, moreover, with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
More than 150 countries participate annually on 5 June, with a different country hosting it each year. World-wide corporations, organisations, communities, governments, and celebrities adopt the World Environment Day brand to champion their environmental causes.

UNEP is the leading global voice on the environment. Therefore, it provides leadership and encourages partnership in caring for the environment. Moreover, it inspires, informs, and enables nations and their people to improve the quality of life, but without compromising that of future generations.
#OnlyOneEarth
Individuals, communities, businesses, and governments around the world today marked World Environment Day under the theme #OnlyOneEarth. Sweden is the host country this year, and therefore, official celebrations were held in Stockholm. Furthermore, at the celebrations today, Sweden announced a ban on issuing new licenses for the extraction of coal, oil, and natural gas from 1 July this year to protect people and planet.
Green jobs of the future
Sweden’s Minister for Climate and the Environment, Annika Strandhäll, said, “Making the green jobs of the future by accelerating the climate transition is one of the top priorities for the Swedish government. As part of our efforts to implement our climate ambitions, we must take actions against activities that have a negative impact on our health and our environment.”
“Our message to the global community is clear. The winners in the global race will be the ones that speed up the transition, not the ones that lag behind and cling to a dependency on fossil fuels,” she added.
Tens of millions of people around the world commented and Tweeted on social media demanding urgent action to conserve and restore the environment. Furthermore, tens of thousands organised their own activities, including the planting of millions of trees, cleaning rubbish, and taking actions highlighting there is #OnlyOneEarth.
