After over a year of restricted travel, things seem to be looking brighter once more. However, as well as those wanting to travel to warmer climates, there will be many who will opt for a “staycation”. This will be no different in Spain.
Since UK Prime Minister, Boris Johnson announced his corona virus road map, and the prospect of iternational travel from mid-May, bookings have gone through the roof. Consequently, the demand to come to Spain and the islands has been incredible. And all being well, we can look forward to a record tourist season this summer.
“Staycation”
Airlines are obviously desperate to take advantage of this, and Ryanair has recognised the market for a “staycation” within Spain. As such, they announced yesterday that they are launching their biggest ever internal flight schedule. Not only will there be additional flights on existing routes, but also nine completely new routes have been revealed. Commencing at the start of July, Ryanair will have 70 domestic flight routes within Spain. This equates to a 40% increase over last summer and an incredible 800 weekly flights from 21 different airports.
New routes
The new routes will be as follows;
- Flights will now go from Alicante to Ibiza, Menorca and Lanzarote
- From Mallorca you will be able to fly to Zaragoza, Tenerife Norte and Santander
- Flights from Menorca to Sevilla
- Malaga will now fly to Menorca
- Fuerteventura will fly to Valencia
Additional flights
On existing routes, there will also be 16 additional flights as follows;
- Menorca to Valencia (+4)
- Malaga to Valencia (+1) and to Santiago (+1)
- Mallorca to Valencia (+4)
- Gran Canaria to Valencia (+1)
- Sevilla to Valencia (+1)
- Ibiza to Sevilla (+2)
- Lanzarote to Sevilla (+1)
- Fuerteventura to Sevilla (+1)
As virus incidence rates continue to fall, and vaccination plans move forward, demand for internal flights is expected to soar.

Vaccination programmes are due to accelerate in the coming months, and with pent-up domestic and international demand likely to increase this Summer, we are confident new routes to Spain’s most popular holiday destinations will attract strong interest from our Spanish customers.
Mindful that Covid restrictions regularly, Ryanair is now allowing up to two free flight date changes on all bookings should plans change. Customers can now book flights for a well-deserved break knowing that if they need to postpone or change their travel dates, they can do so with a ‘Zero Change Fee’ until the end of October 2021.
