The vacation rental platform Airbnb has chosen 20 destinations around the world that are ideal for digital nomads. The platform will work with those destinations to encourage telecommuting and thereby contribute to the recovery of tourism.
There is only one Spanish among the 20 chosen destinations. The rental platform has not only selected these 20 destinations but will work with them to make the conditions on site as ideal as possible for teleworkers from all over the world.
Earlier this year, Airbnb launched its Live and Work Anywhere initiative to identify international destinations where measures for foreign (temporary) workers are the most friendly.

With this initiative, the organisation also aims to support governments and local tourism promotion organisations. With this, Airbnb hopes to contribute to the revival of tourism and the economy after only two years of travel restrictions.
Over the coming months, the vacation platform will work with various organisations to create personalised websites and campaigns for their destinations. In doing so, they show the benefits of the long-stay places, as well as important information regarding entry requirements and tax laws for foreigners.
The destinations chosen range from entire countries to small, lesser-known cities. They have been selected based on their appeal to digital nomads and the changed policies in specific cities and regions that want to appeal to a new type of traveller.
This initiative builds on work during the pandemic. Then Airbnb partnered with more than 160 governments and promotion agencies to support the return of tourism, including through remote work, to their communities.
A new travel world created
“In the two years since the pandemic began, a new world of travel has emerged in which many employees are no longer tied to an office. By partnering with these 20 destinations, we want to make it easier for employees to enjoy this flexibility and support the return of safe and responsible travel,” said Nathan Blecharczyck, co-founder and chief strategy officer of Airbnb.
