FOOTBALL – The quarter-finals are over, and four teams remain standing to battle it our at Wembley Stadium for the semi-finals and finals of Euro 2020.
The first of the semi-finals takes place Tuesday July 6 with the next game, the following evening. Then the title winner will be decided on Sunday July 11, also at Wembley.
Ukraine v England
England´s game on Saturday against Ukraine started strong. A cross came from Sterling setting up Kane who scored after just 4 minutes. The early goal brought out some fire in the Ukrainian side, however, England were still the most dominant team. With chances from both sides, England must have been relieved when the first half ended 0-1.
Effortless Performance
Half time talks in the dressing room must have motivated the team not to sit back on a one goal lead. Less than one minute into the second half a goal came because of a free kick from Shaw met by a header from Maguire. This was followed 4 minutes later with Kane´s second goal of the match. England now had a comfortable lead and were showing an effortless performance.
England reach the semi-finals
The last goal of the match game once again from England. This time, the scorer was Jordan Henderson at 63 minutes. His first ever goal for England. Sterling was substituted in the 65th minute and the game ended 0-4 with England reaching the semi finals which will be played against Denmark on Wednesday at 9pm.
An interesting match
After another amazing quarter final match, Spain also qualified for the semi-finals and are due to play on Tuesday at 9pm against Italy. Italy is the only team out of the remaining four to have won all five matches played in the competition. However, Italy have only won twice against Spain in their last 14 meetings. Meanwhile, Spain have been on excellent form in their last few matches having narrowly escaped being knocked out. This should make for a remarkably interesting semi-final.
‘Christian should have been here’
In a recent interview, Denmark coach Kasper Hjulmand said his squad will have Eriksen in their thoughts as they strive to continue their run at Euro 2020. “We are happy he survived. We carry him all the way to Wembley.”
