After more than a week in which the cold played the main role, with sub-zero temperatures and the impact of storm Juliette, temperatures seem to be gradually rising again in Spain. However, night frosts will persist for a while in most of Spain’s interior. On Sunday, part of Spain was affected by a rain front that entered the country from Portugal. The rain, resulting from an Atlantic front, fell mainly in Extremadura and the western half of Andalucia.

On Monday, fairly heavy cloud cover is expected over much of Spain, which will be more compact in the southern half of the peninsula. Only in the north-east of the peninsula and in the archipelagos will the sky be clear. Some light drizzle may fall in Galicia, Extremadura, Castile and León, Andalucia and southwestern Castile-La Mancha. Showers will also be more likely in these areas on Tuesday. Furthermore, on Tuesday morning, rain is quite likely in Seville, Huelva and Cadiz.

Rain is likely in Galicia and the Cantabrian regions on Wednesday, especially in the far north. Whereas, inland in the south and west, temperatures could become high for the time of year. But, later in the day on Thursday, precipitation could increase in western Galicia, receiving around 100 litres per square metre. According to eltiempo.es, it will rain hard on Thursday 9 March. In the morning in Galicia and Asturias. And by noon also in Cantabria, the Basque Country, La Rioja, Navarre, Castilla y León and northern Extremadura. On Thursday afternoon, precipitation could extend to the Madrid region, all of Extremadura, northern Castilla-La Mancha, Aragon and inland Catalonia. Whereas, on Thursday night, rain stops again and Friday it should remain dry everywhere. Then the influence of an anticyclone becomes noticeable, probably also over the weekend, which could be warmer than normal.

Maximum of 25 degrees Celsius

Temperatures are already forecast to rise in the coming week, after Thursday’s rain they could go even higher. In the south-east it could get warm, with maxima above 25ºC in Murcia and Valencia. Other areas where temperatures could already exceed 20ºC include southern Extremadura, parts of Andalucia, the middle and lower reaches of the Ebro, parts of Catalonia and in the Canary Islands.
