The United States announced it will open its borders to travellers from the UK and EU in early November. Other banned countries will also be allowed entry via air.
The US administration has said the ban will be lifted sometime in early November, though did not specify a date. The full list is the 26 Schengen Area countries, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Brazil, China, India, Iran and South Africa. Travellers from these countries have been banned from entering the USA for over a year.
The White House announced the decision on Monday, September 20. Only vaccinated travellers entering by air from those countries will be able to enter and be exempt from quarantine. Children who aren’t eligible for the vaccine yet will be exempt from the vaccination requirement.
It does not include land travel from Canada and Mexico.
News welcomed by many
UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson welcomed the news, saying, “I am delighted that from November, @POTUS is reinstating transatlantic travel so fully vaccinated UK nationals can visit the USA. It’s a fantastic boost for business and trade, and great that family and friends on both sides of the pond can be reunited once again.”
The European Commission called it a “long-awaited step for separated families & friends, and good news for business.” In a tweet, the Commission said, “We welcome US announcement that fully vaccinated EU travellers will soon be able to travel to the US again.”
Many others have welcomed the news, including the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism.
